A different type of challenge is provided by the PVP

  • "The 1.12 version is WoTLK Classic Gold what we're launching with, and it's the main goal we set our sights on," Birmingham said. "We stated '1.12 was where the game was the patched most and complete, and also the best balanced.' That's the level we wanted to establish the system on for WoW Classic."

This doesn't mean that the game will be completely static, but. While the goal is to retain the game as it was prior to the 1.12 update for the foreseeable future, players will still find some content to unlock over time and recreate the experience of being a player when the game first began rolling out updates.

"People are requesting for the possibility go back in time and play WoW Classic in its original form," Birmingham said. "We were looking to make something that was like an archive of time however we'd like to have these progressive content unlocks. These include, Blackwind Lair and Ahn'Qiraj. Naxxramas. We'd like these to unlock in the future, when communities are willing for them when they are progressing through those diverse components of content. In the meantime, the systems overall we want to keep at 1.12 which is where we believe they are the most comprehensive and balanced."

The notion of ongoing updates like they were originally released however, raises the question of expansions. Blizzard has released seven expansions. And while later ones like Legion as well as Battle for Azeroth would feel strange in the Classic framework, it stands to reason that some players may wish to experience previous expansions, like The Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King in the context of World of Warcraft Classic. Blizzard isn't making cheap WOW WoTLK Classic Gold a decision on this, but hasn't ruled it out.
